How to Choose the Right Wedding Photographer – Education

Hello everyone! We are Stefan and Stefan brand founders of SIA Weddings. This blog isn’t imagined like a personal promotion. Our goal is that you can find the best photographer for your special day in your life.

Choosing the right wedding photographer for you is one of the most important factors that will affect how your day is captured and what sort of memories you’ll bring with you.

Budget

This topic is hard to skip. Budget is the biggest factor that can effect to choose a photographer. If you have an unlimited budget feel free to skip this section. Honestly, we estimate ‘live’ photo, cause at the end of the day when all food is eaten, the music has stopped playin’ and the guests go home, all that you have left is the beginning of a new journey with your loved ones and photos that have all that memories.

The bunch of photographers does not show their prices publicly. The reason is the fear that prices will turn you down before attracting themselves and their work. It’s reasonable but for you takes a Lil longer to choosing the right wedding photographer. That’s why you have to send inquiries to all the photographers who woke up your feelings.

The good side of the correspondence is that it gives you access to his nature and professionalism. These will be the first steps that will determine your choice, and then you should pay attention not only to the expression and style of the photographer but also on their goals. If you feel that you are on the same wavelength that means you are on the right way.

Pay special attention to the answers in which they are in the first plan photographic equipment, the praise of their pictures, not what they can do for you. Also, beware of cold and short answers ‘cause there is an offer without additional text and messages.

Both cases can be bad at first impression, but they can indicate that the photographer values more money and his selfishness instead of your happiness of pleasure. As for the budget, photographers can be separated into three groups:

Low – end

Photographers who are working below-average price. In most cases, this group of photographers shortens their services on every corner. This sort of photographer usually submits unseen photos that have not been selected and of course, no finishing has been done on them (the most common example used is uneditted photos). This means you get an amateur product without quality control. Not everything is so black in this group, there it’s a million shades of gray…you can come across extremely talented photographers who are just starting and breaking into the market. Give them some chance.

Mid – range

Photographers who have average prices and differ by about 20% from each other. Practically, they do not differ much in price, but the differences can be large in the content of the package. With this group, pay attention to the hidden costs (travel costs, additional photographer, and hours). If you received a pleasant e-mail with a nice brochure in which you have all the details and have no additional questions, you are on the right track.

High – end

The last group is “expensive” photographers. Their prices are high but they are often justified by investing in themself and creating a strong brand, they can offer you uniqueness that has been gained through hard and long work. Of course, observe here as well, not everything expensive is good and safe for you.

The next equally important decision is to choose the style of the photographer.

Style

There are generally two categories that determine the style. Similar to music, they are an genre and sensitivity (rhythm).

Genres can be different e.g. journalistic, editorial, fine art, fashion, traditional… Each of these approaches determines the photographer’s choice of shot and what he considers important to be in that shot.

Journalistic – It is very important to determine the approach to your wedding. If you are bored of posing and hanging and waving and smiling and you want the photographer to capture emotions.

Traditional – If you like formal portraits and every guest is noticed and every custom fulfilled.

Fashion/Editorial – If you feel avant-garde and rebellious.

Fine Art – If you have a refined taste, maybe someone who takes photos of the film is for you. Dedicate a little time to yourself and your needs n’ wish and decide to approach them.

Once you’ve chosen an approach and singled out candidates, you’ll notice that their photos vary insensitivity. Sensitivity in photography is the same as in music, it has its tone and its rhythm.

The tone is obtained by choosing colors, so they can be strong and saturated or mild and muted or by emphasizing some and softening others. The rhythm is obtained by choosing light so it can be strong and direct (direct sun at noon) soft and mild (sunset behind the newlyweds or soft window light), it can have a sense of the depth of space and structure (light comes from the side). Photos can be normally exposed, dark, bright. Sometimes an artist can add something abstract that better describes his emotional experience of you and your surroundings.

Regardless of the terminology, find works that you sympathize with and an approach that will complete the creation of some of the most beautiful memories in your life.

Offer

The basis of any good offer is the best quality product. The most important part of a quality product that a photographer delivers is the identity of the content.

This means if you hire a photographer a year in advance you want to make sure you get the photos and material in the style you see today. One of the good indicators that a photographer cares about his work is the way he presents.

Website

If it has a nicely arranged site, with clear links to social networks, normal and realistic communication on the same, it takes care of aesthetics, in which case it is most likely at the right address. Of course, there is another side, photographers show only the best works.

If the site does not have an extensive gallery of photos from the all-day wedding, feel free to ask them to send you one. In the gallery, pay attention to the consistency of colors, e.g. if you have different colors in photos from one location no change of time or black and white photographs vary in contrast, in which case, likely, the photographer does not have a developed sense of visual communication. On the other hand, despite photoshop, photographers are not wizards.

Photos taken in non stylized places will never be the same as photos in a beautifully decorated space. Photos in strong sunlight at 2 pm will never be the same as in the soft sun at 7 pm. Bad manners will never be as dear as spontaneity and honesty.

Post Wedding Season / Day after

The wedding day can be pretty strong and unpredictable and can be tense. It is good to have the option of a photo session the day after when everyone is relaxed and has enough time to spend at their favorite location. You can allow the photographer to express himself fully.

Delivery

The number of photos submitted varies. In general, for a full day of photography, the healthy number is around 700. That is a sufficient amount to show everything important. Keep in mind that a larger number of photos requires more time spent in processing and lowers the quality, most often the details are left out, the photos are not arranged in the same manner or the same frame is obtained from multiple angles.

Be realistic with your requirements, the rule that it is better is not valid here. For some photographers, the created photos are colored pieces of paper, and for others, they are part of a puzzle that completes their work. The law of quality applies here. Lots of pictures for little money = poor quality.

Wedding Book

Creating a book should be simple. If you hired a photographer because of his vision and sensitivity, let him design a book for you, but be sure to do a final check. If you don’t like some of them you can always change it with similar ones. In any case, don’t change the concept.

Your rights

Read the brochure or contract carefully. The way you get digital photos, their quality (resolution), whether you get all the selected photos or only the ones you order in printed format, whether the photos contain watermark and logo or not, what is the delivery time, method of payment etc.
